So, as Hollywood begins to buzz with the heat and energy of summertime, get out there and dance. Here are some of our picks for not-to-be-missed music this summer.
Saturday, August 3rd from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm
If you tend to seek out lesser-known independent artists rather than their mainstream counterparts, the SoulfulofNoise Music Festival may be the one for you. SoulfulofNoise has long been a fixture in the California music scene, acting as a showcase for up-and-coming artists eager to reach a larger audience. This year, SoulfulofNoise is putting on their very first music festival, an event promising to bring in over 20 artists across a wide range of genres, from hip-hop to comedy, along with countless local food and drink vendors. The festival is more than just a good time, though; organizers have pledged to use the event proceeds for a city-wide school drive, providing free backpacks, supplies, haircuts, and a new financial literacy education program. Support local artists and schoolchildren in your community, all while making a lasting summer memory. Admittance is free if you RSVP before 1 pm.
It’s no secret that the Hollywood Bowl is LA’s go-to music spot for big acts, and this summer, the lineup does not disappoint. On a warm summer night, there’s nowhere better to be than under the cover of the California stars at the Hollywood Bowl, watching legends dazzle the audience. Some notable upcoming acts include Chrissy Hynde of the Pretenders, who will make her Hollywood Bowl debut on July 6th with an entire orchestra; late-90s Seattle emo-rockers Death Cab for Cutie with special guest Car Seat Headrest on August 11th; and America’s favorite live hip-hop band, The Roots, on August 28th. Classical music buffs will be happy to see Tchaikovsky and Beethoven filling in the summer calendar. If you’re hungry, pick up one of Suzanne Goin’s picnic boxes and dine alfresco.
If you live in Hollywood, you probably know that LACMA is one of the most inspiring spots in the Los Angeles area, if not in the whole state of California. With over 140,000 items in their collection that reflect the diverse population and history of Southern California, there’s never a shortage of fascinating exhibits to draw in the intellectually curious. But beyond checking out the ever-rotating selection of art, did you know that LACMA also showcases musicians? In fact, the museum puts on over 100 concerts a year, and many of them take place over the summer. Friday nights up until November are all about jazz, giving you a chance to get up close and personal with legends like John Clayton, Janis Mann, and Barbara Morrison. On Saturday nights, check out Latin Sounds, which features artists from locales with strong Latin heritage like Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, Argentina, and, you guessed it, Los Angeles!
Whether you are a music aficionado or just looking for an exciting night out, residents of El Centro Hollywood will find a plethora of musical options right at your fingertips.
